Epiphany Bible studies and classes are open to anyone. Some classes may meet all year long, while others may meet for a quarter or continue longer. These studies will help you on your journey of faith and also offer a wonderful fellowship opportunity. Epiphany disciples get together throughout the week in small groups to study God’s Word, discuss and learn from the Bible and each other. Please contact the Church Office at 937-433-1449 if you have questions about any of our studies listed below. Newcomers are always welcome!

DR. LARRY WELBORN IS BACK!

The Saving Acts of Jesus

Sundays, September 18-October 16
9 AM, Far Hills Conference Room

Distinguished New Testament scholar and perennial Epiphany favorite, Dr. Larry Welborn will teach an adult Sunday School class this fall on the saving acts of Jesus. Here is how Dr. Welborn describes the class:

At this moment, I feel the need to investigate the acts of Jesus, that is, the gospel accounts of how Jesus enacted his primal confidence in the reign of God, through his work as a healer, a liberator from oppressive spirits, an agent of God’s righteousness. Some years ago, the great New Testament scholar Paul Achtemeier demonstrated that the Gospel of Mark contains two primitive collections of miracle stories. Robert Fortna argued that a similar collection of the deeds of Jesus is found in the Gospel of John as a “Signs (Semeia) Source”. So, our class will explore these primitive collections of the saving and liberating acts of Jesus and the relevance of these stories for our present moment. Perhaps, together we can find a path beyond our current feeling of powerlessness and back into constructive action.

Dr. Welborn may teach some of the classes via Zoom from his office at Fordham University. In addition, each class (even if Dr. Welborn is on site at Epiphany) will be available for remote attendance via Zoom.

Please sign up if you are interested in learning more, if you wish to attend online (to receive the Zoom meeting information), and if you wish to receive the class materials each week. Registration is encouraged but not required if attending in person; walk-ins are welcome.
