Wednesdays During Lent

February 14 – March 21  |  Far Hills Campus

Ash Wednesday | February 14

Far Hills Campus
Communion Service: Noon, Sanctuary
Soup Supper: 6 PM, Celebration Center
Communion Service: 7 PM, Sanctuary

Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent. On this day, we focus on our sin and the brokenness it causes us and those around us. Ashes are referred to many times in the Old Testament as signs of sorrow, mourning, humility, and repentance. On Ash Wednesday, ashes are used to remind us of our mortality. In Genesis 3:19 God tells Adam and Eve (after they have sinned) “you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” We remember our own sin as we have ashes placed on our foreheads before hearing our sins are forgiven.

Everyone is Invited to Join Us for Soup Supper  |  6 PM  | Celebration Center

Enjoy a warm meal with your Epiphany family! Bring your own bowl and spoon, and bread, salad or dessert to share. Pick a week – we take turns supporting the soup supper. Epiphany staff will make soup for the Ash Wednesday supper! There three ways you can serve at future soup suppers:

  1. Bring a large pot (about two gallons) of a favorite soup, stew or chili to serve. Large pots are available to borrow.
  2. Bring a large dish (equivalent to 9 x 13) of macaroni and cheese to serve.
  3. Help with hosting and set-up before the supper.

The sign-up board is located in the Gathering Space, or sign up online.

Prayer Wall at Both Campuses

Our prayers are the glue that binds us together and that binds us to God. The prayers that you fill in the wall will not only be lifted up to God but will be used during the Easter Vigil to light the fire of resurrection, which lights the paschal candle for a new year. The prayer wall be be located in the Narthex at the Far Hills Campus and in the back of the Sanctuary at the Austin Campus.

Lenten Service Focus: Epiphany’s Pantry Care Packages

Week One: February 14-18 – Laundry Detergent
Week Two: February 21-25- Toothbrushes and Toothpaste
Week Three: February 28-March 4 – Dish Liquid
Week Four: March 7-11 – Toilet Paper
Week Five: March 14-18 – Shampoo
Week Six: March 21 – Assemble Pantry Care Packages

This year we continue to serve the needy in the Miami Valley by supporting the Epiphany Pantry through collecting and assembling Pantry Care Packages. This same congregation-wide service project generated enough item and financial donations last year to create more than 300 care packages containing personal care and cleaning supplies.

Case workers’ clients are grateful to receive such things as shampoo and toilet paper, because these supplies cannot be purchased with food assistance cards. Each week during Lent, we will collect different personal care and cleaning items, and on March 21 between supper and worship, we will assemble care packages for our pantry families. You can actually donate any of these items at any time, and monetary donations will be accepted online or by check with “Pantry Packages” in the check memo. Our goal is simply to beat last year’s numbers, and each care package costs approximately $15.
